FlowerBox
=========
FlowerBox is a screensaver that provides a three dimensional animation of a
morphing object moving around the screen. It requires RISC OS 4 or greater, a
minimum of a StrongARM processor, and Tinct installed.
Many aspects of the screensaver's operation is configurable. Use the
interactive !Help program for further information on the various options, or
see the Settings section of this file.
Installation
------------
FlowerBox can either be installed into your !Boot sequence manually, or by
running the provided Install file. If these files are in a Spark archive
(Zip file) then you may need to copy them to another directory first.
Please note that FlowerBox requires Tinct to be installed.
Settings
--------
There are a variety of aspects of the screensaver that can be configured. The
basic options are described below:
Morphing
¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨
This controls the speed at which the object morphs between the various shapes.
A high value results in fast changes, and a low value results in slow changes.
Delay
¨¨¨¨¨
This controls how much time is given back to the operating system whilst the
screensaver is running. A high value means that the operating system will run
any background tasks at a higher speed when the screensaver is running, and a
low value means that the screensaver animation is smoother.
Model size
¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨
This controls the size that the animation is drawn at. The smaller the model,
the smoother the animation will run.
Scale
¨¨¨¨¨
This controls the scale at which the animation is drawn to screen. It is
recommended that this value is set at 100%.
Bi-linear filter
¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨
If the model is scaled or the screensaver is run in a rectangular pixel screen
mode then FlowerBox can smooth the image out to improve the display quality
at the expense of the smoothness of the animation.
Display
¨¨¨¨¨¨¨
This controls the manner in which the image is drawn to screen. There are four
available settings:
Use OS The image is drawn to screen by the operating
system. This does not allow any enhancement to be
performed on the image.
Direct to screen The image is drawn to screen using optimised routines.
This provides the smoothest animation, but the same
quality as the using the operating system routines.
Dither The image is drawn to screen using a simple dithering
method. This provides an emulation of twice as many
colours as the current screen mode provides at a
slight loss to the smoothness of the animation.
Error diffused The image is drawn to screen using full error
correction. This provides the best image quality and
the highest loss to the animation smoothness.
It should be noted that error diffusion is not currently available in all screen
modes. If it is selected, but not available, then dithering is used.
Colours
¨¨¨¨¨¨¨
This controls the colours that the various model faces are given. If 'Use first
colour for all' is selected then the first colour selected is applied to all of
the models faces.
Apply checkerboard
¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨
This controls whether a checkerboard effect is applied to the models faces. This
setting has no impact on the animation smoothness.
Cycle colours
¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨
This controls whether the models face colours are slowly cycled through the
entire spectrum. This setting has no impact on the animation smoothness.
